軍隊生活で最も記憶に残っている出来事

When the Army drafted me out of graduate school during the Korean War, they wasted two years of my life, i.e. I could have received my doctorate degree two years earlier. On the other hand, the army did give me a 2-year break (probably much needed) from 19 years of schooling.

The army gave me a break from 19 straight years of education and gave me time to reflect on my career aspirations. I returned to graduate school with renewed vigor and confidence.

I am thankful that the army recognized and used my talents (I already knew how to do all the clinical tests from college and graduate school) instead of making me a foot soldier.

Presently (as of 1996), I am Professor Emeritus of Pharmacology, University of Minnesota Medical School. I began my teaching and research career at the U. of Wisconsin (2 years), moved on to the State U. of New York, Syracuse (4 Years) and taught at Minnesota for 32 years. To date, I have published 439 research papers and 2 non-scientific, history books.
