While living in the small community of Tono in Iwate-ken Japan, Rev. Wada started a church that originated from a Bible Study Class. The group eventually outgrew the meeting place and decided to build a new church building. Rev. Wada purchased the property but the predominately Buddhist community opposed the building of this Christian Church. Rev. Wada had a carpenter from Morioka city, who built the Morioka Marunouchi church in Western-style, build the Tono church building.
