2009 Discover Nikkei Intern, Yoshimi Kawashima, and Project Manager, Vicky Murakami-Tsuda, painting the kokeshi "body" for a Tanabata decoration made by the Japanese American National Museum, one of seven fukinagashi created for the 1st Annual Los Angeles Tanabata Festival in Little Tokyo.

A design created by Krokeshi artist Emi Motokawa was applied to Japanese washi paper, then painted in with acrylic paint.

After the paint dried, the paper was cut into long strips to flow beautifully in the wind for the Tanabata decorations.
