Clarissa Chun finishes 5th in freestyle wrestling at Olympics
Here's the results for another Nikkei athlete at the Olympics: Clarissa Chun is of half Chinese and half Japanese descent from Honolulu, Hawaii. She competed in the Women's freestyle 48kg wrestling competition where she finished in 5th place -- they actually award 2 bronze medals for the sport and she lost one of the bronze medal matches. This is her first time competing at the Olympics. Clarissa is only 4'11" and, according to Wikipedia, the first wrestler from Hawaii to qualify for the U.S. Olympic team. According to her website (www.ClarissaChun.com), she's of mixed generation Chinese lineage (3rd & 4th generation from Oahu), and 3rd generation Japanese ancestry on her mother's side from Kauai. Her website also has some articles about her, a bio, photos, and t-shirts for sale. You can also donate to sponsor her. |
