Haley Ishimatsu finishes 5th in women's 10m platform synchro diving

Haley Ishimatsu is a 15-year-old Nikkei from Southern California. She is on the 2008 U.S. Olympic diving team competing in two events - the women's 10m platform synchro with partner Marybeth Dunnichay who is also just 15 years old and individually in the women's 10m platform. She and Dunnichay, who were among the youngest competitors in the field, placed 5th yesterday (Aug 12) in Beijing.

Haley still has the individual 10m platform event coming up. Preliminaries are on next Wed, August 20, with the semifinal and final the next day.

Haley Ishimatsu made it past the preliminary round of the women's individual 10m platform at the Beijing Olympics finishing 10th, but then did not make the finals. She ended the competition with a 14th place finish.

But, she's young. She'll be turning just 16 next month, and she plans to continue diving in preparation for the 2012 Olympic Games in London.
