Historic San Jose Japantown building lost by fire
Another building that played a big part in the history of Japanese Americans has been lost. This time, it is a building that was used as the Hori Midwifery in San Jose's Japantown. The bungalow was originally constructed in 1905 and was used over time for many different uses within the community. While operating as a midwifery, it was the birthplace for many Nisei. I read about it on the The Rafu Shimpo website: I also found a more extensive article in the Nichi Bei Times: |
