Hi, my name is Bobby Okinaka. I am the new Web Editor for Discover Nikkei.
My father is third generation Japanese American from Los Angeles and my mother is from Okinawa. I graduated from UCLA with a degree in East Asian Studies. After college I taught English in Wakayama Prefecture on the JET Program. My career up to this point has been in media production and website content management. I have always been interested in Japanese American issues and history and so I volunteered for the Go For Broke Hanashi Oral History Project and helped to interview over 60 Japanese American veterans. My passion project is a website on Japanese pop culture called Tokyo a la Mode (www.tokyoalamode.com). My future goals are to learn to speak fluent Japanese and write a screenplay about the Japanese American experience.
I'm looking forward to being a part of Discover Nikkei! Yoroshiku!
