Japanese American community plan for last major site in Little Tokyo
The Rafu Shimpo Online has an article about a proposal recently endorsed by the Little Tokyo Community Council put forth by Jonathan Kaji, of Kaji and Associates, and the Little Tokyo Service Center to build a mixture of retail space, an office tower, residential housing including affordable housing, and parking. It includes additional community partners. The site is the last significant parcel of undeveloped land remaining in the Little Tokyo area. It currently is in use as a parking lot. However, the site is up for bid by the city of L.A. It's a highly desirable site on the corner of First and Alameda between the Japanese American National Museum and the Nishi Hongwanji Buddhist Temple. A Metro Gold Rail station is being built on the corner. There are several bids that are being made to the city for the lot by other groups as well.
