Yay lets celebrate DAD's Day!
See you there!
I attended today's opening day event for the Landscaping America: Beyond the Japanese Garden exhibition. It was a wonderful day as hundreds of people came out to see the exhibition, including many current/former JA gardeners and their families and friends, plus other yet who own/owned nurseries and other related businesses.
It was really great to see the gardeners so excited and proud to see themselves and others they knew in the exhibition photos. It made being there today so much more special for those who attended because it really brought the history to life.
Discover Nikkei's project staff were there with a special activity. They videotaped individuals who shared their own or their family's personal stories. Some very interesting and heartfelt stories were recorded and will be available in the Nikkei Album as soon as they can get processed and uploaded. There were 27 individuals recorded in all and included gardeners, nursery owners, and the children of both.
To see the collection where these video clips will be added to, visit:
Mie Gakure: Discovering Nikkei Gardeners and their Communities. This is an open-ended collection, so we'll continue to add more to it as new content becomes available. If you would like to add your own JA gardener-related stories to the collection, just upload your photo(s), video, and/or audio files to Nikkei Album and then let us know that you'd like for it to be included. Instructions are available on the main collection page.
We plan to have at least one more collection documentation day during the run of the exhibition. If you'd like to know when the next day will be, please email editor@DiscoverNikkei.org.
