Apollo Anton Ohno on Dancing with the Stars
I have to admit...I watched last week's entire Dancing with the Stars show on ABC because I wanted to see how well (or badly) Apollo Anton Ohno danced. In previous seasons, I've looked in here and there, but this was the first time I really watched it. Not only that, I actually logged in and voted online. That's the first time I've ever voted in any of these reality-show competitions. I wouldn't have voted if I didn't think he had a chance. I was actually quite impressed with his efforts despite having little time to train for the dancing competition because he was simultaneously training and competing in the 2007 World Short Track Speed Skating Championships where he finished first in the Men's 1500m, third in the 1000m, third in the 5000m relay, and third in the 3000m, giving him bronze in the overall. The Rafu Shimpo interviewed him recently about being on Dancing with the Stars and his busy life. It's a nice little article: Dancing With Apolo I plan on watching again tonight, and may even vote again. By the way...Dancing with the Stars also features another Nikkei - Carrie Ann Inaba is one of the judges on the show. ![]()
![]() Apollo made it safely past the first elimination on the show, so we get to see more of him next week. They don't tell you the audience-based results, but after the first 2 weeks, he was in 3rd place based on the combined judges scores. |

Great style. I only watched because Apollo was dancing and was also very impressed. It reminded me that some of the best hip hop artists coming up are Japanese American and Japanese.
