1965年愛媛県松山市生まれ。筑波大学第一学群社会学類法学主専攻卒業。筑波大学大学院修士課程教育研究科修了。筑波大学大学院博士課程教育学研究科単位取得退学。東京学芸大学教育学部専任講師、助教授、准教授、ハワイ大学教育学部客員研究員(2001-2002年、2008年)などを経て、現在、東京学芸大学教育学部教授、博士(教育学・筑波大学)。専門分野は社会科教育・多文化教育,ハワイ研究,授業研究方法論。著作は『多文化教育とハワイの異文化理解学習―「公正さ」はどう認識されるか』(単著、ナカニシヤ出版、2011年)ほか。
