Welcome to the Discover Nikkei Taiko Database. This has been developed in conjunction with the exhibition, Big Drum: Taiko in the United States, at the Japanese American National Museum. The goal of this database is to compile a comprehensive repository of information representing the depth and diversity of contemporary taiko outside of Japan. The database has been designed to enable taiko ensembles to record and continually update their organizational histories and missions in their own words and through their own images and sounds.
Visitors to the site may search the database by group name, region, and several other characteristics. Included in the initial launch are taiko groups from the United States, Canada, South America, and Europe. Each group has been asked to update and add more information about their contact information, their history, philosophy, and performances, as well as upload images and MP3 audio files. We hope that the Taiko Database continues to grow and expand as taiko does.
