There were many Japanese Americans serving in the armed forces when Pearl Harbor was attacked. After the attack, they immediately had their weapons confiscated and were re-assigned to non-combat jobs. They were eventually classified as 4-C; enemy aliens, and were expelled from service.
Japanese Americans later served in segregated military units such as the 100th Infantry Battalion and the 442nd Regiment Combat Team.
