James K. Tanaka, a participant and panelist at the "Whose America? Who's American? Diversity, Civil Liberties, and Social Justice" National Conference in Denver, Colorado presented by the Japanese American National Museum.

The photo was taken at the Discover Nikkei booth in the Community Marketplace on Thursday, July 3, 2008 at the Hyatt Regency, Denver.

Participants of the Discover Nikkei photo activity were asked to write their thoughts about the conference or share a memory related to WWII.

James Tanaka's comments:

"I am attending the "Enduring Communities" as a panel member about life outside the relocation centers. I lived in Portland & was sent to the Portland Stockyard Assembly Center & Minidoka Relocation Center. My family left the Center in the spring of 1943 on a seasonal group leave to thin the sugar beets. Summer weeding. Fall harvesting & back to the Center. 1944 was a repeat, but out on an indefinite leave.

My research answered, "Why?, Why? Why?, Why? Why? Why?" To find the answers & the rest of the "Why" question, visit Discover Nikkei - James Tanaka"
