Black and white silent amateur films by Dave Tatsuno (1913-2006), a businessman in the San Francisco Bay area. Tatsuno's earliest films, taken from August 1936-January 1937, show family, church, and school activities.

This segment (02:00; dark), filmed January 1, 1937, shows the Tatsuno family and friends at dinner, celebrating New Year's; the party includes Tatsuno's father Shojiro (seated at the head of the table), his brother Tut, his sister Chiye, his girlfriend Alice Okada; and other unidentified guests; dinner includes a turkey and traditional Japanese dishes; after dinner the group plays piano and sings; Shojiro pets the family dog.

Tatsuno's notes for this clip erroneously indicate that the footage is color: "New Years Dinner and our store (Kodachrome Color Film), January 1, 1937".

Credits: Dave Tatsuno Collection, Gift of Dave Tatsuno, in Memory of Walter Honderick, Japanese American National Museum (91.74). Preserved and made accessible in part by a grant from the National Film Preservation Foundation.
