This giant red gateway adds Japanese character to Liberdade, Sao Paulo, Brazil. In Japanese, the gateway is called a "torii" and is traditionally the entrance to a Shinto shrine. The torii was first built in 1974 and reconstructed in 2004. It spans over Rua Galvão Bueno and connects the Liberdade subway station to the heart of the district. The gateway is nine meters tall.
