Uyehara\, Daniel Akiyama\, Delaina Thomas\, Nicki Uechi\, Ashl ey Nakanishi\, Grant Kagimoto (Hawai‘i)</strong></li></ul>\n\n---\n\n<st rong><em>AAPIHM event to highlight Okinawan diaspora writers</em>\n</stron g>\nOn May 18 (Saturday)\, 1:00 - 3:30 p.m.\, the <strong>Okinawa Associat ion of America (OAA)</strong> will host a free multi-author talk and readi ng in celebration of Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month (A APIHM).\n\nTitled “Finding Okinawa\,” the event will feature writers o f Ryūkyūan descent across North America. All speakers will be participat ing online from their respective locations.\n\n<strong>Jami Nakamura Lin ( Illinois)</strong> and <strong>Shō Yamagushiku (Victoria\, British Columb ia)</strong> will share their latest works\, “The Night Parade: A Specul ative Memoir” and “Shima: Poems” respectively\, in part 1.\n\nPart 2 will focus on “Chiburu: Anthology of Hawai‘i Okinawan Literature” w ith <strong>Lee A. Tonouchi\, Mistee N. Uyehara\, Daniel Akiyama\, Delaina Thomas\, Nicki Uechi\, Ashley Nakanishi\, and Grant Kagimoto (Hawai‘i). </strong>\n\nThe goal of this event series is to inspire a deeper interest in Okinawa by showcasing creatives who explore their roots and identity t hrough contemporary projects. The first was held in 2019 with local docume ntary filmmaker Gena Hamamoto\, illustrator Flor Kaneshiro (Argentina)\, a nd the late author Jon Shirota (Hawai‘i).\n\nThe organization also hopes to promote their <strong>OAA Kamiya Library</strong> and encourage donati ons. The library was established in 2002 and contains several English- and Japanese-language books about Okinawan culture\, history\, and diaspora.\ n\n<strong>This free event will be held online via Zoom.
