DESCRIPTION:On <strong>Friday\, February 26th\, 7:00 PM</strong>\, the <str
 ong><a href="http://oaamensore.org" target="_blank">Okinawa Association of
  America (OAA)</a> in Gardena</strong> will host a meet-and-greet with art
 ist <strong><a href="http://laurakina.com" target="_blank">Laura Kina</a><
 /strong>. She is a professor of art\, media\, and design at DePaul Univers
 ity in Chicago\, Illinois and a professional artist. <strong>RSVP is requi
 red to attend this event.</strong>\n\nKina will be discussing her latest c
 ollection of paintings titled &ldquo\;Uchinanchu.&rdquo\; These mixed-medi
 a creations incorporate Okinawan and Hawaiʻian t-shirts donated by OAA me
 mbers\, resulting in quilt-like designs that capture the "champuru" (Okina
 wan word for "mixed") nature of Okinawan American identity specifically an
 d Asian American identity in general. The joint exhibition\, &ldquo\;Trans
 national Lives in Motion: The Art of Laura Kina and Việt L&ecirc\;\,&rdq
 uo\; will be displayed at Cal Poly Pomona&rsquo\;s&nbsp\;<a href="https://
 www.facebook.com/kelloggartgallery/"><strong>Kellogg University Art Galler
 y</strong></a>&nbsp\;(2/27/16 - 4/23/16).\n\nShe will also share photos an
 d stories from a study abroad program that she leads every year. Titled &l
 dquo\;Okinawa\, Japan: Art\, Politics\, and Economy\,&rdquo\; the in-depth
  tour focuses on traditional and contemporary art while exploring the poli
 tical and historical struggles that have shaped Okinawa.\n\nAdmission is <
 strong>free for current OAA members</strong> and <strong>$5 for non-member
