Include the name\, date \, and time of the program\, as well as your name and the total in your pa rty.\n\n<strong>About Wakako Yamauchi:</strong>\nWakako Yamauchi was born in 1924 in the desert farmlands of the California Imperial Valley. In 1942 \, the seventeen-year-old Yamauchi and her family were interned with thous ands of other Japanese Americans in Poston Relocation Center in the Arizon a desert. She worked as an artist for the camp newspaper\, the Poston Chro nicle\, and there began her lifelong friendship with the writer Hisaye Yam amoto.\n\nFollowing the war\, Yamauchi began writing fiction. Her short st ory &ldquo\;And the Soul Shall Dance&rdquo\; was published in the groundbr eaking Asian American anthology <em>Aiiieeeee!</em> (1974) and later adapt ed into an award-winning play\, beginning Yamauchi&rsquo\;s long career as an acclaimed playwright. Her first collection\, <em>Songs My Mother Taugh t Me: Stories\, Plays\, and Memoir</em>\, was published in 1994.
