Weekly lessons provide students with an opportunity to begin the study of Japanese or to sharpen previously acquired skills. All courses ar e taught by an experienced native instructor of the Japanese language. \n\ nBeginning Japanese Level I Time: Wednesday evening\, 6:0 0-8:00 p.m. \n\nDesigned for students with no previous instruction in Jap anese\, this course strives to develop an understanding of basic elements of Japanese grammar\, expressions\, and writing system. Textbook: Japanese For Busy People\, Vol. I.\n\nBeginning Japanese Level II Time: Thursday evenings\, 7:30-9:30 p.m\n\nA continuation of Beginning Japanese Level I\, this course will build upon previously learned basic el ements of Japanese grammar and expressions. Writing system will include a review of katakana\, hiragana\, and an introduction to basic Chinese chara cters (Kanji). Textbooks: Japanese For Busy People\, Vol. I (from Lesson 6) and Basic Kanji Book\, Vol. I.\n\nBeginning Japanese Level III Time : Thursday evenings\, 5:30-7:30 p.m. \n\nA continuation of Beginning Japanese Level lI. This course will build upon previously lea rned basic elements of Japanese grammar and expressions. Students will le arn how to make plans with friends or colleagues\, as well as learn how to request an item\, etc. Textbooks: Japanese For Busy People\, Vol. I (fr om Lesson 12) and Basic Kanji Book\, Vol. I.\n\nBeginning Japanese Level Ⅳ Time : Tuesday evenings\, 8:00-10:00 p.m.\n\nA continuation of Beginning Japanese Level lII. Emphasis is on grammatica l expressions\, basic conversation\, and development of Chinese characters (kanji)\, up to approximately 100 characters. Textbooks: Japanese For Busy People\, Vol. II (from L esson 10) and Basic Kanji Book\, Vol. I.\n\nConversational Japanese Time: Monday evenings\, 5:30-7:30 p.m\n\nDeveloped for st udents who have an understanding of Japanese grammar\, and a minimum knowl edge of 150 kanji. This class will provide a forum for basic Japanese conv ersation between students and instructor. Topics of conversation will be d etermined by the instructor\, along with various reading assignments. This class will prepare students for Japanese-Language Proficiency Test Level 3. Textbook: Japanese For Busy People\, Ⅲ (from Lesson 9) and various h andouts.\n\nAdvanced Japanese Time: Tuesday evenings\, 6:00-8:00 p.m. \n\nObjective of this class is 1.) to develop an ability to carry an extensive conversation with native Japanese speaker s\, 2.) be able to read Japanese newspapers and 3.) acquire a well balance d knowledge about Japanese culture and way of life. The first hour of clas s will be dedicated to grammar development\, utilizing kanji. Students wil l use the textbook Japanese for Busy People Vol. III. The second hour of t he class will focus on conversation only. After completion of this class\ , your level will be comparable to the Japanese-Language Proficiency Test Level 2.
