This event has been postponed due to Hurricane Sandy. New date TBD.

The New York Japanese American Citizens League has planned an event for Sunday, 11/4/12 from 1-4 PM honoring the Nisei heroes of World War II. The 100th Battalion, 442nd Regimental Combat Team, and the Military Intelligence Service represented the most decorated military unit of its size and scope in US military history. The veterans, now in their 80s and 90s, were honored with a Congressional Gold Medal, the highest honor in the U.S.

NY JACL plans to present gold medals to these veterans and widows, and invites members of the Asian American and Hawaii communities to join them for this luncheon and awards ceremony. The keynote speaker is Grant Ujifusa, who credits the heroism of these soldiers with helping to get redress passed into law in 1988. Professors of Asian American Studies and leadership from the JACL will also be present to honor these men and women. Admission is $50 for adults and $15 for students. Widows and veterans will, of course, be admitted free.

The event will be held at the Asian American/Asian Research Institute at 25 West 43rd Street, 18th floor. Please contact NY JACL for more information.
