 2007\n\nThis spring\, the Oregon Nikkei Legacy Center is hosting a collect
 ion of lithographs by renowned printmaker Roger Shimomura\, which depict t
 he Japanese American internment experience.\n\n<ul><li>Memories of Childho
 od\n</li><li>Yellow no Same\n</li><li>Mistaken Identities</li></ul>\n\n<em
 >Biography:</em>\nRoger Shimomura’s paintings\, prints and theatre piece
 s address socio-political issues of Asian America and have often been insp
 ired by 56 years of diaries kept by his late immigrant grandmother.\n\nHe 
 received his B.A. from the University of Washington\, Seattle\, and his M.
 F.A. from Syracuse University\, New York. He has had over 100 solo exhibit
 ions of his paintings and prints\, as well as presented his experimental t
 heatre pieces at such venues as the Franklin Furnace\, New York City\, Wal
 ker Art Center\, Minneapolis\, and The Smithsonian Institution. He is the 
 recipient of over 30 grants\, among them four National Endowment for the A
 rts Fellowships in Painting and Performance Art. Mr. Shimomura has been a 
 visiting artist and lectured on his work at over 200 universities\, art sc
 hools\, and museums across the country. In 1999\, the Seattle Urban League
  designated a scholarship under his name that since has been awarded annua
 lly to a Seattle resident that is pursuing a career in art. In 2002\, the 
 College Art Association presented him with the "Artist Award for Most Dist
 inguished Body of Work" for his 4-year\, 12-museum national tour of the pa
 inting exhibition\, "An American Diary." The following year he delivered t
 he keynote address at the 91st meeting of that association in New York Cit
 y. In 2006\, he was accorded the Distinguished Alumnus Award from the Scho
 ol of Arts & Sciences\, University of Washington.\n\nIn the fall of 1990\,
  he held an appointment as the Dayton Hudson Distinguished Visiting Profes
 sor at Carleton College\, Northfield\, Minnesota. At the University of Kan
 sas where he taught since 1969 he was designated a University Distinguishe
 d Professor in 1994\, the first so honored in the history of the School of
  Fine Arts on that campus. In 1998\, he was the recipient of the Higuchi R
 esearch Award\; the highest annual honor awarded a faculty member in the H
 umanities and Social Sciences. In the fall of 2002\, he received the Chanc
 ellor’s Club Career Teaching Award for sustained excellence in teaching 
 and dedication to students at the University of Kansas. In 2004 he retired
  from teaching and started the Shimomura Faculty Research Support Fund\, a
 n endowment to support faculty research in the Department of Art.\n\nMr. S
 himomura’s personal papers are being collected by the Archives of Americ
 an Art\, Smithsonian Institution in Washington\, D.C. He is represented by

 and Jan Weiner Gallery [Kansas City].\n\nRoger Shimomura’s <em>Three Lit
