Most vivid memory of military experience
My father would share only a few stories of his military experience. (1) While in Germany, he had a woman make a shirt for him out of material from a parachute. Rather than accept payment, she wanted lard. When Seiji brought her a gallon of lard which he had bartered for from the mess hall staff, the woman and her family scooped spoonfuls of the lard directly into their mouths. (2) Seiji had been raised on a Japanese diet of seafood, vegetables and rice in Terminal Island. Less than a week after eating
