(Seeing) mutilated bodies, (and realizing that) the enemy is human too, (and) seeing a German boy 10-12 years old on the front line, crying with a loaf of bread in his hands.
Missed most whilst in the military

To come home safely, and (seeing that)wars are terrible and only grief the result.
