Living conditions
We lived in standard barracks on cots.
Meals were ample and generally good.
Bathed in community showers and (used) community toilets.
Movies were our main entertainment. We had a recreation room for reading and ping pong. Spent some time at the PX window shopping.
Most vivid memory of military experience
I was in full uniform at a counter in Philadelphia , PA and the server asked me how I liked the U.S.!

Most important thing, personally, to come from military experience?
I was able to get my B.A. Degree on the G.I. Bill. While in the service, I met the man I married - Edward F. Cleary (who was in Tilton General Hospital also as a G.I. Lab Technician.) and we had 2 wonderful sons. Now I have 2 wonderful grandsons and a special lovely daughter-in-law, Julie Nishiyama Cleary, and her parents became special friends after my husband died in 1988.
Additional information
My father was Rev. Seijiro Uemura, pastor and minister at Spokane, WA, Portland, OR and Denver, CO. My mother was Hana Morishita Uemura. They had 8 children - Lillian Terasaki, me, Frances Yanase, Ethel Yanase, Grace Uemura, Dr. Joseph Norio Uemura, Elizabeth Imazumi and Kiyo Hanna Sato. I am a graduate of Colorado Women's College '38, AA; Colorado State at Greeley ('40 - '41) and after service received my BA at University of Denver under the GI Bill in 1947.
