Denshō: The Japanese American Legacy Project

Member since Feb 2004

Mission Statement

Denshō's urgent mission is to preserve the personal testimonies of Japanese Americans who were unjustly incarcerated during World War II, before their memories are extinguished. These irreplaceable firsthand accounts, coupled with historical images, related interviews, and teacher resources, are provided on the Denshō website to explore principles of democracy and to promote tolerance and equal justice for all.

About

Denshō participates in the Discover Nikkei website to help promote the preservation and sharing of Nikkei resources for educational and research purposes. Specifically, Denshō has produced videotaped life history interviews with selected members of the Japanese American and Japanese Canadian communities to supplement the Real People video archives. Densho has also supported the Discover Nikkei website by providing video processing and streaming media services for the video life histories on the site.

The Denshō Digital Archive is described in the Directory of Nikkei Collections.
