Ellison Onizuka was the first Asian American astronaut to reach the space . He died at 40 years only, during the explosion of the Space Shuttle Challenger in January 1986. In honor of Onizuka, a monument, there is a replica of the Space Shuttle Challenger, and a street named Onizuka Street in Little Tokyo.
