Teacher Brother Paul stands with his students, one of whom is Bill Shishima,age 10, standing second from the right. Bill Shishima attended Maryknoll school that was predominantly Japanese Catholic at the time. Once a week, the school required students to take Japanese classes, but Bill’s mother wanted him to learn English, so he ended up doing his English homework in the Japanese class instead.
