If you look at George Hoshida's painting, Kilauea Military Detention Camp, you will see a center street, between a mess hall on the left and a barrack on the right. This picture is of the mess hall in 2007. You can barely see Mount Kilauea beyond the hall on the right side of the picture.

Susan Turner Purvis recently visited the Kilauea Military Camp in Hawai'i, and sent this picture, along with a detailed description, back to the Japanese American National Museum. To see a Nikkei Album collection on George Hoshida, please see the George Hoshida collection.
