What am I? For the record, my mom is Korean and my dad is Sicilian and Yugoslavian. Off the record, I wonder, why does this have to be what defines me? Why am I consumed with wanting to belong? Is it society that makes me want to associate myself with someone or is it inherant? Either way, I do want to belong but cannot. Most White Americans think I'm Asian and almost all Asians think that I'm White (or Latin). I don't fit in with my family on both sides because I'm the one that stands out. So what am I? The jury is still out on that one.

Photograph submitted for The Hapa Collection in response to the Japanese American National Museum's exhibition kip fulbeck: part asian / 100% hapa. Participants were asked to add their own response to the question "What are you?"
