Nippon América 日本アメリカ

Licensing

The Nippon América 日本アメリカ photo exhibition takes a look at Japan through the eyes of three Latin American Nikkei   photographers: the Brazilian Marcio Takeda (@takeda_marcio ), the Peruvian Luis Okamoto (@luisokamotope ) and the Mexican Taeko Nomiya (@nomiyataeko ). Marcio Takeda does colorful digital street photography that show us the surprises Marcio runs into when he hits the streets with his camera. Luis Okamoto does Polaroids that focus exclusively in architectural details of ancient temples or archaeological sites. In his pictures, ancient Peru and modern Japan would seem like two faces of the same country. The Mexican Taeko Nomiya uses double exposure to combine two shots in a single image, where she shows modern scenes overlaid with characters and images reminiscent of the true spirit of the places she photographs. The pictures of the exhibition will be shot in Tokyo in August, before the exhibition, and the show will be curated by the Mexican artist Alantl Molina, as a personal homage to Japan.

The Nippon América 日本アメリカ exhibition will be part of the “Vive México ” Festival, to be held in the Cervantes Institute in Tokyo, the Cultural Space of the Mexican Embassy, La Lavandería Café and Hotel IBIS on September 1 – 15, 2019.
