Yumi Mizukoshi


A reporter for a Japanese information magazine in Los Angeles. Born in Ishikawa Prefecture, she lives in LA. After graduating from Osaka University, she worked as a reporter and editor at a local newspaper. After five years, she left the company and studied abroad in Vancouver, before taking up her current position in 2015. She is currently covering a wide range of topics, including Japanese people and the Japanese community active in America, the history of Japanese people, as well as entertainment, sports, and business in Los Angeles. Her favorite place is a bookstore. Her favorite book is "Touge."

Grandparents are speaking English! I was shocked when I came here from Japan about a year ago. I had never seen elderly people speak English in Japan (maybe because I was in the countryside). Even young people have a hard time, so I couldn't believe that people who look just like my grandmother could speak English fluently. I didn't know anything about "Japanese people".
