Though sung with a heavy heart\, the lyrics speak nothing of the sorrows of parting\, but o nly of joyful aspirations and anticipation of a safe return. Thus\, &quot \;Danju Kariyushi&quot\; embodies not only the optimism and resilience of the Uchinanchu spirit\, but also on invitation to all to &quot\;return h ome&quot\; to their roots\, no matter where their journeys have taken the m. \n \n In this spirit we present to you our concert by the same name. I ncorporating theater with Okinawan music\, dance and taiko\, we will reco unt key events in Uchinanchu history from the Satsuma invasion in 1609 th rough the establishment of the Hawaii community. Through this presentatio n\, we hope to share with you not only the struggles of our people to mai ntain our identity and pride\, but also a celebration of our culture that has endured centuries of hardship and traveled across the sea to establi sh firm roots in Hawaii.
