Visit Higashi Hongwanji Hawaii Betsuin during their annual Obon festival, a celebration of Japanese culture, ancestry, and religion through food, dancing, and more! Come participate in a tradition brought by Japanese immigrants honoring loved ones who have passed.

Higash Hongwanji Mission of Hawaii (Hawaii Betsuin), a Shin Buddhist temple, was established in 1916 when Rev. Shingyo Doi founded a temporary chapel in Honolulu city. The meaning of "betsuin" is "a temple with the special role of preserving and spreading the Buddha's teaching among temples in a set area" - in this case, Hawaii District.
