Stray Dog ( 1949) is one of the earlier, grittier films by directing legend Akira Kurosawa. A rookie detective has his Colt pickpocketed while one a bus, and combs the city for it. A manhunt begins when the Colt is used in a murder. Added bonus: The rookie detective is played by a fresh-faced Toshiro Mifune.
