 venue. Park around the cemetery. \n\nLed by Resident Storytellers\, Steve 
 Goldstein and Joe\nWalker\, this tour explores one of Los Angeles&#39; oldest\
 ncemeteries. Built in 1877\, Evergreen existing cemetery\nin the city of L
 os Angeles\; it is one of the city&#39;s\nlargest cemeteries\, with 300\,000 g
 rave sites. City\npioneers like the Workmans\, Hollenecks\, and Van Nuys\n
 families are buried here as well as lesser known but\nequally fascinating 
 Los Angelenos. The cemetery also\nhas a special section called the Garden 
 of the Pines\,\nwhich memorializes Issei pioneers of Los Angeles. 19\nth c
 entury midwife Biddy Mason\, a slave who earned her\nfreedom through the C
 alifornia courts\, is also buried\nhere. \n\nSteve Goldstein was born in B
 oston\, Massachusetts\,\nwhere he developed his love of cemeteries at a ve
 ry\nearly age. Moving to Southern California at the age of\n18\, he contin
 ued and studying and began his vast\ncollection of photographs of the grav
 es of what he\ncalls &quot;The Famous\, the Infamous\, and the Just Plain\nDead
 &quot; that make up his as-yet unpublished book\,\n&quot;Beneath Los Angeles.&quot; The c
 ollection has become a\nfavorite website for many over the past eight year
 s at\nwww.BeneathLosAngeles.com and has led to Mr. Goldstein\nbeing freque
 ntly interviewed\, including the Los\nAngeles Times\, the Orange County Re
 gister\, KABC AM\nRadio\, NPR and many other media venues.\n\nJoe Walker i
 s a Crime Analyst with the Los Angeles\nCounty Sheriff&#39;s Department and ha
 s been with the\ndepartment since 1986. In that capacity\, he has worked\n
 numerous patrol stations and special unit assignments\,\nincluding Robbery
  and Homicide. In 1995-1996\, he\nassisted best selling author James Ellro
 y\, (L.A.\nConfidential\, Black Dahlia). His most recent work was\nas a co
 ntributing writer to the five volume series\,\n&quot;Famous American Crimes and
  Trials&quot; published in\nDecember\, 2004 by Greenwood Publishers. Walker wro
 te\nabout the 1942 &quot;Sleepy Lagoon&quot; murders in Los Angeles\nand the subsequ
 ent &quot;Zoot Suit.&quot; Most recently\, he is\nassisting the National Center for 
 Missing and\nExploited Children in the 1957 case of Tommy Bowman. \n\n\nSh
